SUR 111 - Surgical Procedures I

3 credits
This is the first course that will focus on surgical procedures. General surgery will include open, laparoscopic, and robotics of the gastrointestinal tract, biliary tract, pancreas and spleen, hernia repair, breast, and thyroid. Procedures will include surgical anatomy, incisions, preoperative diagnoses; patient preparation; case preparation: outcomes and complications for the surgery. Topics relating to incisions and wounds will include characteristics, types, and healling. Other matter includes sutures, staplers, and accessory devices used to close a surgical wound. This course uses lecture and laboratory practice which provides a correlation of theory to practice and development of skills.
