3creditsThis interdisciplinary course is designed for first or second year students to explore men’s and women’s experiences in American society and the role that ideas about sexual differences have played in shaping those experiences. Areas of inquiry will include, but are not limited to, the following: the construction of gender roles and sexuality; the relationship between gender and other social, political, and legal structures and institutions; and the interplay of gender with race, class, and ethnicity in cultural perceptions and expectations of both men and women. This course will strive to assist students in formulating questions about gender as it relates to their on-going work in various disciplines across the curriculum.
