ITR 121 - Interpretation Skills I 3 credits This course introduces students to fundamental interpreting skills, both in theory and in practice, with a focus on developing consecutive interpreting ability and introducing sight translation. Coursework includes cognitive skills of interpreting, introduction to interactional and social aspects of dialogue interpreting, note-taking, situational management, introduction to topic preparation, beginning development of self-monitoring and self-assessment abilities, and application of ethical decision-making and standards of practice through interpreting practice. Students will also be introduced to relevant theoretical concepts. Instructor/Advisor permission required.
